Amy and Stripes: page 25
Amy stood open-mouthed as the rose twisted and turned. Then before Amy could even blink, there he was – the King of Sugi. His purple satin cloak was embroidered with silver and gold. His golden crown glowed and the light winkled off the jewels that were adorned in it. His brown beard curled under his chin and his blue eyes sparkled.
"Well, hello there and welcome to Sugi!" The king said. "I'm Leonard and this is my wife Mary. Did you happen to see any Leecom birds on your way here?"
"Uh, yes," Amy stuttered. "I think so."
"That darn Philtaglio is always running off to go play with the corn! I'll lock him in his room for a month if I have to!"
Amy looked questioningly at Queen Mary.
"Philtaglio is Elizabeth's pet Leecom bird," Mary answered.
"Who's Elizabeth?" Amy asked.
"She is Corpse's sister," Mary replied.
"Corpse has siblings?!" Amy said, shocked. She had thought he was an only child.
"Oh, yes," Mary replied. "There's Elizabeth, Rachel, Ashley, Andrew, Cameron, Nathan, Michael, Nicholas, and we cannot forget little baby Susie."
A little two-year-old came toddling in through the door. She caught sight of the king and started toddling even faster, with a huge smile plastered on her face. "Daddy!" She shouted.
"There's my little Susie!" the king said as he scooped up the little girl and started swinging here around.
"Bet I know who that is," Amy said.
Mary giggled.
"Oh, dear. Where's Corpse?"
"He went to the sound room to wait for you," Mary Answered.

Amy and Stripes: page 24
It took Amy a while to get used to the bright light that surrounded her as she stepped into the mall. When her eyes finally adjusted, she took a deep breath. She was standing on a stainless steel platform and before her was the largest variety of flowers she had ever seen. There were daisies and tulips and crocus and allium, and the most perfect rose Any had ever seen. It was on a small table with a glass covering it.
It's leaves curled at the prettiest angle. It's water droplets gleamed in the spotlight that was shining down on it. "Wow!" Amy said. She was awe-struck.
"Ah, yes," the queen said. "I would like you to meet someone." The queen walked over to the case and pulled the rose out. She handled it like it was a delicate egg shell. "Amy dear," the queen said. "I would like you to meet my husband." She leaned down toward the rose and said, "John, dear, we have a guest."
Amy and Stripes: page 23
They stepped into the polished granite porch and waited. A moment later a face peered out of the window in the silver doors. The face smiled and then disappeared. Amy heard chains rattling and locks being opened, then the doors opened. As Amy stepped inside, she gasped. The floors of the palace were tiled gold and silver. The ceiling was engraved with pictured of gods and goddesses of Sugi. The servants all wore white tuxedos embroidered with silver. Wonderful smells wafted from the main kitchen, making her wish she had a snack with her. A short woman with curly bright red hair came speeding over. She hugged Corpse and then turned to look at Amy.
"Well then, who do we have here?" the woman asked.
"This is Amy, Mom," Corpse said. "She's my..." He paused. "Owner." As he said that, he used the two-finger parentheses gesture.
Amy sighed. Why couldn't she have a normal cat like everyone else? The thought made her laugh.
"What?" Corpse asked.
"Nothing," Amy answered innocently. Amy froze. "Wait, so this is your mom?" Amy asked.
"Yup," Corpse answered proudly.
Amy suddenly felt embarrassed. She was in the presence of the Queen of Sugi, and all she was wearing was a "Fun in the Sun" t-shirt and a pair of jeans.
The queen seemed to guess what she was thinking and she said, "Oh, don't be embarrassed deary. We'll get you some new ones straight away." And with that she grabbed Amy's hand and started pulling Amy toward a door labeled "Graveyard."
"Wait," Amy said. "If you're getting me new clothes, why are we going into a room labeled Graveyard?"
"It's a security thing," the queen explained. The queen opened the door to the room labeled Graveyard.
Amy and Stripes: page 22
Amy wondered why Corpse was so scared. Amy was about to ask him, but the look in his eyes told her she probably shouldn't. But now she understood why she was feeling so strange. She was nervous, but she still didn't know why. She shot a questioning glance at Corpse. He smiled and said ,"Let's go inside. We're already late."

Amy and Stripes: Page 21
What was that all about? Amy thought. And why was Corpse looking so nervous when the green bubble stopped over his head? Amy didn't understand at all.
"What was that for?" Amy asked Corpse.
"They're called feeling bubbles." Corpse explained. He reached back and pulled a piece of crinkled paper out of his pocket. "Here," he said as he handed Amy the paper. It was a faded chart. It looked like this.
Amy and Stripes: Page 20
Amy suddenly felt overwhelmed.
Corpse looked back and said, "What's wrong?"
"It's just..." Amy paused. She didn't know what to say. All this had come at her so fast. It seemed like she was supposed to be a great hero, but she know how.
Corpse smiled knowingly and pulled a purple satin draw-string bag out of his pocket. He opened the bag and several different bubbles came out. Then, all of them except for a rosy purple colored bubble and a sickly green color bubble popped. The purple one floated toward Amy and stopped right above her head. The sickly green one floated above Corpse and stopped. Then a bright, stop-light green bubble appeared between Corpse and Amy. There was a "ding" that seemed to come from inside the bubble and then all of the bubbles popped.

Hi there!

Amy and Stripes: page 19
Amy looked down. There was a little armadillo sitting at her feet.
"Hi Andy," Corpse said happily.
"Well hello there Mr. P.C. 3!" Andy said. "That stands for Prince Corpse the Third," he whispered to Amy laughing.
Amy really liked him.
"The king is waiting in the throne room for you," Andy said. "If you need any help, you know, with whatever it is the king has for you to do, just let me know."
"I'll be sure to do that," Corpse answered.
Amy and Corpse headed toward the palace while the wolf stayed back to talk to Andy. As they walked through the gardens, servants were continuously running up and offering them endless varieties of foods, clothes and perfume. Amy tried one of the odd-looking foods that was shaped like a snail and unfortunately, ended up in one of the many "Stomach Emptiers' (which, thankfully, consisted of towels for afterwards) which were located along the way.
Amy decided not to eat anything else other than normal food.
Finally, after what seemed like hours they came to a large gateway with millions of flowers covering it, making it look like a terrace. The two guards bowed and opened the gates. There before them stood the Palace of Sugi.

She looked over at the hedge and saw that a hole was opening up where the metal used to be. When it was finally open, Corpse and the wolf jumped through. Amy cautiously followed. When Amy got to the other side, she saw yet another hedge! The only difference was that this one formed a box around them. The door closed behind them and they waited.
After a couple of minutes, a small speaker materialized in the corner of the hedge box. "Password?" it said.
"Abcedrian Struffle," the wolf said.
"You may enter," the speaker replied.
A hole opened in the hedge and once they had gotten through, an amazing sight met their eyes. A pure white Sultan's house. It was at least 40 stories tall. Its gardens and foutains were endless. Ivory statues uin the center of every garden. Numerous towers, all part of an ENORMOUS castle with flecks of black and brown against a polished white, made it look very much like vanilla ice cream.
"Welcome to the Palace of Sugi," a voice said.
Amy jumped.
"Sorry I scared you miss."
Amy looked around, but couldn't see anybody.
"Down here!" the voice said.

"What kind of tests?" Amy questioned.
"I'll tell you about it tonight. But right now, we've got to get going!" Corpse said. So the two lions and the wolf raced through the Terricoyata grass, all of them wondering what the news might be.
After a while, they came to a small field. On the other side of the field, there was a tall hedge. In the middle, going from the bottom to the top was a strip of shiny metal. The wolf walked up to the piece of metal and said the words, "I know your secret, so open up. I know your secret you soapy lump."
And then something amazing happened. The metal peeled off the hedge, bowed to the wolf and then it turned into a bar of soap!"
"Whoa!" Amy said. She was amazed. But as she looked over at Corpse, he looked as if nothing had even happened! Amy shrugged. "Oh, well," she thought.

Amy and Stripes: page 16
Right after she thought that, a large grey wolf streaked with white burst out of the Terricoyata field and bowed down in front of Corpse. "You must go to the palace immediately. Some dangerous news has just reached the king."
"What happened?" Corpse asked.
"It's top secret, your highness. I don't even know it yet. The king does not wish to divulge anything unless it is in the sound room."
"What is a 'sound room'?" Amy asked
"And who might this young lady be?" said the wolf.
"Her name is Amy. I believe she is the lost princess of Sugi," Corpse told the wolf.
"Well then, good luck with your tests Amy," the wolf said.
"Tests? What tests?" Amy asked.
"They are sort of like a one person Olympic Games," Corpse said. "It's sort of like a celebration party to prove to the citizens of Sugi that the princess of Sugi has returned."

She felt up and down the side of her head with her eyes still closed, but couldn't feel anything but fur until she patted the top of her head.
"OWWW!" She shouted as a thunderous boom as loud as an explosion roared through her ears. "I found my ears," she thought. "Can I open my eyes now?" she asked Corpse.
"Yes, it is safe now."
Amy opened her eyes and there, sitting right next to her was a lion! "Corpse?" she said slowly.
"Yes," said the lion.
"I knew it!" thought Amy. A thought came to her mind. "Am, am I a lion too?" Amy asked fearfully.
"Yes. Yes you are," Corpse answered.
"But that means…" Amy looked behind her and saw her own tail swinging around behind her.
Amy and Stripes: page 14
"Now what," Amy asked.
"It's one of the guards from my father's castle. If they see me here in public in human form he'll tell my father and they I'll be in big trouble. Worse yet, he's only a mile away and in wolf form!" Corpse sounded scared. He grabbed Amy's arm and told her, "Close your eyes." Amy did as she was told and felt her clothes tighten and then loosen again. Then suddenly she couldn't feel any clothes on at all!
Feeling slightly embarrassed, she reached up with her free hand and touched her shoulder. It felt furry! The wind blew a piece of hair in her face. She tried to tuck it behind her ear, but where her ear normally would've been, was just a bunch of fur on the side of her head!

Make sure that you've read the rest of the story before continuing...
Corpse pulled something that looked like a cell phone out of his pocket, quickly followed by another. "Here. You might need this. Especially in the Teracoyata field," Corpse added.
"What is it?" Amy touched the screen and a bright green map appeared on the screen.
"It's a GPL. GPL stands for Global People Locator. You touch the screen and a green map appears. You say 'GPS locate!' and it shows where everyone is." He did this for himself and then added, "Unfortunately, it only does it for people that are 100 miles away or less."
"'Unfortunately'? Seriously! That's awesome!"
"In America maybe, but in Sugi, the latest technology has one of these that goes 10,000 miles."
Amy just stood there gaping.
"What?" Corpse said. He was acting like he didn't have a clue. That made them both laugh. Corpse stopped laughing and looked at his GPL. "Uh-oh," he said.

"What's the different between a Terrihocky and a Terricoty?" Amy asked.
"Terrihockies are generally all boys and squirt freezing purple goo, while Terricoties are all girls and quirt anti-green goo. Once it has been squirted on someone or something, whatever is wrong with them goes away completely until they are perfectly healthy," Corpse explained.
"Are they related?" Amy questioned. She was slightly mystified by the fact that boys could freeze and girls could unfreeze.
"Yes. Actually they are all brothers and sisters. Their mother and father are the king and queen of Terrimistopia," Corpse answered.
"Terrimistopia? That is the strangest name I have ever heard," Amy stated.
"Are you sure? You might change your mind when you hear what I've got to say. To get to the palace of Sugi we have to pass through a field of purple Teracoyata grass," Corpse said.
"You're right, that is the strangest name I have ever heard," Amy said laughing.

"Uh-oh. Curl into a little ball and stay as quiet and as still as you can," Corpse said suddenly.
"Why?" Amy demanded.
"Shhhhhhh!" Corpse said. He was already curling into a ball on the floor. Amy reluctantly did the same. As soon as she had finished, a giant shadow passed over them.
When they were sure that whatever cast the shadow was gone, they stood up and Amy immediately declared "What was that all about?!"
"There was a Terrihocky in the sky," Corpse said.
"A Terapockitet?!"
"No, a Terrihocky. It's a giant land blowfish," Corpse explained.
"What's so dangerous about it?" Amy asked.
"When it sees something that it wants to eat that's moving (that's the only thing it eats), it squirts purple poisonous goo out of a nozzle on its forehead that immediately freezes you until someone can get you covered in Terricoty goo."

Amy opened the closet door and was immediately hit with a blast of hot air. "Whoa! It's really hot here!" Amy exclaimed. "I wish that I had a fan or something."
Stripes changed back and reached into his pocket and pulled out a large fan. "Here you go," Corpse said, looking satisfied.
"Wait, where did that come from?" Amy asked.
"My pocket," Corpse said.
Amy felt a little embarrassed because he said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "How did you fit it in there?"
"Uh, the magic pants of catavoya. It's a new issue."
"Yeah, I have a LOT to learn," Amy said.
"Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it once we get to the Wonder Mall. We'll suit you up with more comfortable clothes."
"But aren't these clothes okay?" Amy asked.
"Well, they are in Michigan, maybe, but here in Sugi you'll need clothes like these." He pointed to his jacket then spun around in a circle. Amy laughed.

The thing was walking around in circles, occasionally pecking the ground.
"What's that?" Amy asked.
"That's a Leecom bird. It's normally very friendly unless you disturb it while it's eating or when it's sleeping."
They rode on for a couple more minutes and then the wind started to go slower and the closet started to rattle. "Hold on tight," Corpse said.
Amy looked through the floor and saw that the ground was getting closer. "How are we going to land?" Amy asked.
"We won't," Corpse replied.
"Why not?" Amy asked.
"Because you and Stripes will land because boys aren't allowed in Sugi unless they are in animal form, part boy – part something else, or if they are slaves."
"How mean!" Amy shouted.
"You get used to it. Well, I'd better do my change." By the time Corpse was Stripes again, the wind had completely dies down and the rattling had stopped.

Inside the circle, Amy could feel the wind, but she couldn’t hear anything. Although Outside of the wind circle it was roaring really loud.
"Go ahead and sit down," Corpse said. Amy looked at the floor as she was about to sit and immediately stood back up. The floor was gone!
"Where did the floor go?!" Amy exclaimed.
"I thought you might want to see Sugi without actually experiencing it," Corpse answered.
"Why would I not want to experience it?" Amy asked.
"Because there are some unpleasant creatures in Sugi, most of which I would not like to speak of right now. Oh, there's one now." He pointed through the floor at a creature that was half bird, half boy. Two human feet tuck out of the underside of a gigantic-sized chicken. The head was a boy's head with a beak sticking out of the boy's face where his nose and mouth should have been.

"By what?" Amy asked.
"By closet," Corpse repeated.
"How do you travel by closet?"
"Well, if you have magic blood, which of course we both do, and you say the password and then the place you want to go, it will transport you there," Corpse explained.
"What is the password?" Amy questioned.
Corpse leaned over to her and whispered in her ear, "Tampley Osef."
"What does that mean?" Amy asked.
"It means 'transport' in Sugarian."
"Sugarian?" Amy asked.
"It's a type of language spoken in Sugi," Corpse responded. Corpse walked over to Amy's closet and stepped back after he opened the door, allowing Amy to go in. Once they were both inside, Corpse closed the door behind them and said "Tampley Osef!" As soon as he said it, a strong wind started to circle around Corpse and Amy.

Corpse started shaking violently again and Amy ran to her bed, turned on the TV, and laid her head back on her pillow. Just as Corpse was stripes again, Amy's mom came into the room. "What was all that noise?" she said irritably.
"It was the basketball game on TV. Stripes pushed the volume button so it got really loud," Amy lied. Stripes meowed loudly in protest.
"OK, but keep that remote on top of the TV instead of on the floor like you normally do, Ok hun?"
"OK mom," Amy said. As Amy's mom headed downstairs, Amy said, "Phew, that was a close one." Stripes meowed in response and then started twisting. When he was Prince Corpse again, she said, "So, if the King of Sugi has requested us, we best be going now. How will we get there?" Amy asked. "And where exactly is 'there'?"
"We are going to the Grand House of Royalty, and we are getting there by closet," Corpse answered.

I hope that....
Bye!
Amy and Stripes: page 5
Eager to get it all over with, she shut her eyes tight and imagined herself floating above the floor with Corpse staring proudly up at her. When she opened her eyes she almost jumped out of her skin. She was floating 3 feet off the ground!
"Oh my gosh!" she exclaimed. She was in total shock.
"Well, what did you expect?" Corpse said frustratedly. "That you'd be riding a sparkly pink pony?"
"No, but I didn't think that I was really the lost princess of Sugi."
"Well, that proves it. You are the lost Princess of Sugi," Corpse said.
"OK, but how do I get down?!" she shouted.
"Touch the floor with your shoe!" he shouted back up at her.
"You didn't need to yell. I'm right here," Amy stated.
"Well, neither did you," he said.
As soon as Amy's shoe touched the floor, she heard her mom coming up the stairs. "Oh, no, it's your mom!" Corpse said.

"What can the Princess of this Sugi place do that no one else can do?" Amy asked.
"Well, she can fly," Corpse replied.
"OK, now I know it's not me. I can most definitely not fly."
"Try it," Corpse said.
"I don't even know how to!" Amy said frustratedly.
"Just close your eyes, and picture yourself flying. It's easy!" he said reassuringly. But just as Amy closed her eyes, Corpse shouted, "WAIT!"
"What now?" Amy said angrily.
"Is there a rat or a mouse less than 1 foot away from you?"
"I don't think so, no," Amy answered. "Why?" Amy asked.
"Because if there is a rat or a mouse less than one foot way from you, you wouldn't even be able to jump!" Corpse explained.
"Why's that?" Amy asked.
"I don't know. It has something to do with the difference of the blood flow to the brain or something like that," he said.

He had a slight Russian accent. "Why are you here and what happened to Stripes?" she asked angrily.
"I am here looking for the lost princess of Sugi, and I am Stripes."
Amy couldn't believe her ears. Her whole life she had been living with a prince!
"Do you remember how during the day I would explore your neighborhood?"
"Yeah," said Amy.
"Well, during that time I was looking for the lost Princess of Sugi and now I have finally found her."
"Oh, yeah?" Amy asked. "Then who is it?" Nothing could have prepared her for what Corpse was about to say.
"You," he said simply.
Amy was so shocked that she almost fell over. "You're kidding," she said disbelievingly.
"Why would I be kidding you?" he asked.
Amy started breathing heavily and she laid back on her pillow and closed her eyes. "Can I really be the lost Princess of Sugi?" Amy wondered.
Amy got an idea.

"How rude for someone to call my kitty Prince Popcorn," she thought. "Although it might be kind of fun to have popcorn for every meal."
Amy headed upstairs and started talking to stripes. This was a habit of hers. She told him all about the phone call and the invitation to visit the King of Sugi. When she was done talking to him, he meowed and she started stroking him lovingly. "You are not some Prince Corpse the 3rd are you?" Amy asked. At this Stripes meowed and jumped off the bed. He turned around in a circle 3 times, them meowed twice, then what scared Amy the most, was that Stripes suddenly started twisting violently. He twisted and turned for about 5 minutes. When he stopped, a handsome, muscular boy about 14 years old stood in his place. Amy jumped back in surprise.
"Who are you?" Amy had a feeling that she knew the answer.
"I am Prince Corpse the 3rd," he replied.

"Amy, it's for you!" Mrs Lancem called. Amy turned off the TV, pushed Stripes off her lap and headed down stairs. As she picked up the land line she heard a gruff voice say, "Is this Amy Lancem?" "Yes," said Amy nervously. "The King of Sugi has requested that you and Prince Corpse the 3rd come stay with him for the summer. It is urgent" the voice said.
"OK, first of all, who is Prince Popcorn the 3rd or whatever his name is?" Amy asked.
"Prince Corpse the third," the voice said.
"Yeah, whatever. So who is he?"
"He has not told you?' he asked.
"No," Amy replied.
"Prince Corpse has taken the shape of a cat, so I'm told. I believe that you call him Stripes," the man said.
"Stripers? No way is he human. He's my stripes and he's not some stuck up, loud mouthed, Prince Popcorn!" and with that she hung up the phone.
Amy and Stripes: Introduction
Amy loved stories, which is why she loved TV and books so much. Some of her favorite books were Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, Black Beauty by Anna Swell, and Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke. She loved how excited she felt when she read them. She had always wished that one day she could go on an adventure like those some day.
Her wish was about to come true.

Birds are nesting and fawns are playing.
Spring is a wonderful time,
